Prayer for the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 and Halifax Pride Weekend

Because it is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing of Apollo 11 and Pride weekend in Halifax, I decided to write a special prayer. It is based on the infamous Star Wars from American Episcopal Church, Eucharistic Prayer C:

Almighty God, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of glory and praise. Glory be to Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, for ever and ever.

At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home. By your will they were created and have their being.

Let us remember today the 50th Anniversary or Apollo 11, when man landed on the moon. Let us be humble in our accomplishments and use our technology and skills only for the betterment of mankind and not selfish desires, not forgetting that our great advancements must be done so not to destroy the environment we live in, but that we must always live in harmony with all of God’s creations.

Today we also pray for love and acceptance for all. Despite recent disappointments, we pray that the church continues to be an inclusive place, accepting all who welcome Jesus into their hearts, the saints to sinners, the rich to poor, the young to old, the single to married, the low to high, and all others. We are all sinners, but we are truly saved by in believing in Jesus Christ, our saviour, and when we humbly repent our sins before God. We do not forget that Jesus is love, that his love is without condition, and that we must love our neighbours as ourselves.

Protect the Queen’s forces in every peril of sea, and land, and air; shelter them from unnecessary conflict, and ever keep them safe from all evil; endue them with loyalty and courage; and serve the people and God in righteousness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

We pray for seasonable weather for all, especially so those who work the land may receive the fruits of their labour, feed the sustenance required by all, and to be thankful and honour your grace.

We pray for the departed, rest eternal grant into them, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon them.

And we pray for all people of this island home. That we may live together in peace and love, not seeking personal ambitions and desires, but as one people under God, through Jesus Christ, our only mediator and saviour, world without end. Amen.
