The Minor Feast of Robert Wolfall, Presbyter

Stained glass at St. Brendan’s Chapel.

On Friday, 4 Sep 20, I was invited by the Formation Chaplain of Maritime Forces Atlantic to attend a Said Eucharist (BAS) at St. Brendan’s Chapel located in Canadian Forces Base Halifax. This was a training Eucharist (as there was a chaplain who had recently changed denominations and needed to learn the Anglican liturgy) and also the minor feast day of Robert Wolfall, Presbyter who performed the first recorded Anglican Communion Service in Canada in Frobisher Bay (now Iqaluit) in 1578.

St. Brendan’s Chapel is part of the now renamed Stadacona Faith Centre. The stained glass at St. Brendan’s chapel were saved from the base chapel at CFB Cornwallis when it closed at the end of the 20th century. The Canadian Armed Forces chaplaincy serves the spiritual needs of its members, no matter their denomination or faith.

I particular liked the nautical theme of the commemoration and the location of the service.
