Said Eucharist for the Epiphany of Our Lord or the Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles

As current health regulations permit, I attended a said BCP Eucharist at St Paulโ€™s Anglican Church on the Grand Parade for the Feast of the Epiphany.

Epiphany at St Paulโ€™s

In Western Christian tradition, Epiphany is the commemoration of the visit of the the Christ-child by the Magi (wise men/kings).

Collect of the Day: O God, who by the leading of a star didst manifest thy only-begotten Son to the Gentiles: Mercifully grant, that we, who know thee now by faith, may be led onward through this earthly life, until we see the vision of thy heavenly glory; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ, who with thee and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth, one God, world without end. Amen.

Interestingly, St. Paulโ€™s has been doing communion in two kinds, using disposable paper cups to receive the consecrated wine (the priest consecrates wine in a flagon/cruet) then pours it into the cup of each recipient waiting at the altar rail. One must then immediately dispose of the paper cup in a designated receptacle after consuming the wine.

Masked magi

I particularly enjoyed the #FollowTheStar #StPaulsMagi social media posts that St. Paulโ€™s does, especially this year with the masked Magi. My nativity creฬ€che also has a COVID-19 theme this year.

Chalking the Door

Tomorrow is Epiphany, the day when Jesus is visited by the three Magi. I chalked my door this year for Epiphany as I am continually adding to my list of Christmas customs and traditions.

Amen.

Christmas Collect: Almighty God, who hast given us thy only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and as at this time to be born of a pure Virgin: Grant that we being regenerate, and made thy children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by thy Holy Spirit; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit, ever one God, world without end.
