Whitsunday (Pentecost) Eve Evening Prayer

Psalms: 42, 117
1st Lesson: Deut. 16: 9-12
2nd Lesson: Acts 18:24-9:7

Almighty God, during this evening prayer before Pentecost (Whitsunday), and during COVIDtide, we pray for all peoples of this earth. Have mercy upon us, forgive us of our sins, heal the sick, comfort those in anxiety or distress, lighten the darkness of those in sorrow or pain, free the oppressed, strengthen our faith, and grant us peace that the world cannot give.

May the Holy Spirit descend upon us and move every human heart with compassion for the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infects our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; cease suspicions, prejudices, and whatsoever else may hinder us from godly union and concord; unite us in bonds of love; heal the wounds; light the fire of the Holy Spirit within us, but extinguished the fires of chaos around us; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races me serve you in harmony; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
