Prayer for Remembrance Day, 11 November 2019

O Come hither, and behold the works of the Lord, / what wonders he hath wrought upon the earth.

He maketh wars to cease in all the world; / he breaketh the bow, and snappeth the spear in sunder, and burneth the chariots in the fire. -Psalm 46:9-10

And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: a nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. -Isaiah 2:4

Almighty God, on this Remembrance Day, we pray for peace, peace for those living in world, and peace for the departed. We remember all those who have died in times of conflict, and those who have suffered because of war. We pray for all families who lost loved ones and the pain they endured.

We remember all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of justice and freedom, may they never be forgotten and given a peaceful eternal rest in your heavenly kingdom.

We pray for a day with war and suffering shall be no more, that all swords and spears are broken and the cannons silent, and Thy will only shall govern the nations upon this Earth.

We pray for our nation, our people, our communities, our government, and for Elizabeth, our Queen and Governor, that we may all be granted wisdom to live a happy life in harmony, charity, and safety; working together for the betterment of mankind and not clouded by selfish ambitions and sinful desires.

O Lord of hosts, stretch forth, we pray thee, thine almighty arm to strengthen and protect the Queen’s forces in every peril of sea, and land, and air; keep them safe from all evil; endue them with loyalty and courage; and grant that in all things they may serve as seeing thee who art invisible; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

We will remember them.
